Phil Hughes and the Yankees were able to take the first two games of this three game set with a 6-2 victory over Seattle on Saturday. The Yankees Phil Hughes continued to improve with his strong start today.
Hughes allowed 1 run on 6 hits in 7 2/3 innings of work. He struck out 4 and walked 1. He threw 112 pitches today and 70 of them were strikes.
Phil Hughes looks to be getting his 10' look back. He had great velocity on his fastball and he had a good breaking ball throughout the day.
The Yankees offense was led by Raul Ibanez and Jayson Nix.
Raul Ibanez had an RBI double in the Yankees four run 2nd inning. Jayson Nix also blasted a two run shot in that same inning.
Ibanez would then hit a solo shot in the 4th inning to give the Yankees a commanding 5-0 lead over the Mariners.
Robinson Cano extended his hit streak to 10 games with an RBI single to plate Derek Jeter in the bottom half of the 8th inning.
The Yankees and Mariners will conclude this 3 game set tomorrow when Andy Pettitte makes his return to the Yankees.
