The Yankees fell to the Rays on Wednesday night after the Rays were able to rally in the 9th inning and win 4-1.
David Robertson surrendered two quick hits to Sean Rodriguez and Brandon Allen to start the 9th inning. Robertson then would issue a walk to Ben Zobrist to load the bases. Carlos Pena would strike out, but B.J. Upton hit a sacrifice fly to right field to tie the game at 1. Matt Joyce was next and he hit a 3-run shot to right field to cap off the win for the Rays.
"This was a really tough outing for me," Robertson told reporters after the game. "Come back tomorrow and get another win."
The Yankees would go down in 4 batters to end the game.
David Phelps started the game for the Yankees and didn't allow a run. Phelps pitched 4 2/3 innings in which he gave up only 3 hits and 0 runs. He struck out 3 and walked 4.
Robinson Cano provided the only offense tonight way back in the 1st inning when he hit a RBI double to score Derek Jeter from 1st base.
The Yankees and Rays will conclude this series tomorrow. Lineups will be posted prior to the game.
