The Yankees and Mariners kicked off a 3 game set tonight in the Bronx. The Yankees had a tough task to answer with facing the Mariners ace, Felix Hernandez.

The Yankees were able to jump on Hernandez early when they put up a run in the 1st inning. Hiroki Kuroda, the Yankees starter also allowed a run in the 1st inning.

Kuroda was able to pick up the win tonight by going 7 strong innings. He allowed 2 runs on 6 hits. He struck out 2 and walked 3.

The Yankees lost the lead in the 6th inning when ex-Yankee Jesus Montero hit a home run to right field, but their lead wouldn't last long. In the bottom half of the 6th inning, Raul Ibanez hit a 3 run shot off of Felix to give the Yankees a 4-2 lead.

Andruw Jones would give the Yankees some breathing room when he added a 2 run shot to increase their lead to 6-2.

Robinson Cano's bat looks to be heating up as he picked up 4 hits tonight. That was the 19th time in his career that he has had 4 hits in one game.

The Yankees and Mariners have a start time of 4:05 tomorrow for game 2 of this 3 game series.
