The Yankees lost the finale against the Atlanta Braves by a score of 10-5. This game was controlled by home runs, in which both teams combined for 9 home runs.
Phil Hughes started for the Yankees and he surrended 4 home runs in the 4 1/3 innings that he pitched. Hughes allowed 6 runs on 6 hits. He struck out 5 and did not issue a walk. He suffered his 6th loss on the season.
Derek Jeter opened up the bottom half of the 1st with a homerun on the first pitch that he saw from Tommy Hanson. It was Derek's 28th career leadoff homerun.
The Yankees hit 4 homeruns in the game. Derek Jeter hit a solo shot to right in the 1st. Eric Chavez hit a solo shot to center in the 5th. Alex Rodriguez and Robinson Cano went back-to-back in the 6th inning. Rodriguez and Cano each clubbed solo shots to right field.
The Yankees were unable to catch up to the Braves. They were trailing 6-5 in the 8th inning, but the Braves had a 3 run 8th inning and also scored once in the 9th inning. Cory Wade, Boone Logan, and Freddy Garcia all gave up runs.
The Yankees will enjoy an off day tomorrow and they will start a 3 game set with the Mets on Friday.
