Yanks' Take Game 1; Backed by Homers

The Yankees were able to take the first game of the double header on Saturday after defeating the Red Sox 6-1. They were able to crank four home runs over the green monster. 

Freddy Garcia started for the Yankees and he was sharp. Garcia allowed 1 run on 6 hits in 6 2/3 innings pitched. He struck out 5 and walked 2. He threw 100 pitches, in which 62 of them were for strikes.

The Yankees jumped on the Red Sox early with four runs in the first inning. Nick Swisher smashed a three run shot over the green monster. Andruw Jones followed with a solo shot to left field to give them the early 4-0 lead.

The Yankees would go back-back once more in this game in the fourth inning. Andruw Jones would hit his second homer of the game, a solo shot over the green monster, to increase their lead to 5-1. Jayson Nix was next and he too hit a solo shot to left. The Yankees would take a 6-1 lead.

Cody Eppley and Chad Qualls pitched in relief and they allowed 0 runs on 1 hit in 2 1/3 innings pitched.

The Yankees and Red Sox will play game three of this four game set tonight.
