With the help of Robinson Cano, the Yankees were able to defeat the Arizona Diamondbacks by a score of 4-2 in the opening game of their three game set. Cano belted a three-run shot to right-center field in the fourth inning, which turned out to be the game winning home run.

Ivan Nova started for the Yankees and he was working out of jams in almost every inning. Nova allowed two runs on seven hits in five innings of work. He struck out six, but walked two. Nova finished his outing with 94 pitches thrown, in which 63 of them were for strikes.

As stated above, Robinson Cano powered the Yankee offense with his three-run shot in the fourth inning. Eduardo Nunez would tack on another run in the seventh inning with his sacrifice fly.

The Yankee bullpen was perfect as they pitched four innings of one-hit ball.

Mariano Rivera came on in the ninth inning and collected his third save in his final season.

The Yankees and Diamondbacks will continue their three game set tomorrow.
