The Yankees were unable to complete the sweep of the Rays on Sunday as they were defeated 8-3. C.C. Sabathia's struggles continued at Tropicana Field today as he suffered the lost. Out of his ten previous starts at Tropicana Field, Sabathia has now lost nine of them.
Sabathia allowed seven runs on seven hits in seven innings of work. He struck out five and walked only one. He finished his outing with 108 pitches thrown, in which 74 of them were for strikes.
The Yankees were getting shut out until the ninth inning, in which they scored three runs. Brett Gardner led off the ninth inning with a solo shot to right field. Later in the inning, David Adams doubled in a pair to cut the deficit to five.
The Yankees will conclude their road trip with a two-game series with the Mets on Monday.
