What a win and a confidence boost this was for the Yankees. With two outs in the ninth inning, the Yankees rallied off of Fernando Rodney to score two runs and tie the game at three. Lyle Overbay gave the Yankees the lead in the eleventh inning with his go-ahead solo shot, which sealed the win..

Vidal Nuno started for the Yankees and he gave them a solid performance. He allowed two runs on five hits in six innings of work. He struck out two and walked one. He finished his outing with 87 pitches thrown, in which 55 of them were for strikes. Although Nuno pitched a great game, he ended up with a no-decision.

The Yankees got on the board early today as Travis Hafner drove in Brett Gardner with a single in the first inning. They would not score again until the ninth inning with two outs and a 3-1 game. Brennan Boesch came up big with a clutch RBI triple to left field, which scored Overbay from second base. The Yankees would go on to tie the game one batter later when Brett Gardner singled to center field to score Boesch.

Lyle Overbay came up with two outs in the eleventh inning and hit a long solo shot to right field to give the Yankees a 4-3 lead.

The Yankee bullpen got the job done today, despite allowing the Rays to score twice in the seventh inning. David Robertson pitched a scoreless ninth inning and Ivan Nova pitched a scoreless tenth.

Mariano Rivera shut the door in the eleventh inning to earn his 18th save in 18 opportunities.

The Yankees and Rays will play the finale of their three game series tomorrow afternoon.
