The Yankees were unable to defeat the Red Sox on Friday as they were defeated 4-2 in their first game since the All-Star break.
Andy Pettitte started for the Yankees and he was a little shaky to begin the game, but calmed down as the game went on. Pettitte allowed four runs on six hits in six and a third innings of work. He struck out four and walked one. He threw 95 pitches, in which 61 of them were for strikes.
The Yankee offense came off the bat of Chris Stewart as he drove in one run in today's game. The other Yankee run came solely from Brett Gardner and he worked a walk, then stole second and third and scored on a throwing error.
The Yankees and Red Sox will continue their three-game set tomorrow afternoon.
