Hughes Impressive Against Sox; Split Series

The Yankees were able to defeat the White Sox 4-2 on Old Timers' Day. After the White Sox won the first two games of this series, the Yankees bounced back and took the next two to split the series. Phil Hughes was impressive and was able to pick up his9th win on the season. 

Hughes allowed 2 runs on 6 hits in 8 innings of work. He struck out 8 and walked 1. He finished with 106 pitches, 74 of them were for strikes. With the win today, Hughes improved his record to 9-6. Phil Hughes gave up two runs in the first inning, but was able to recover. He would go on to pitch 7 scoreless innings.

The Yankee offense was able to get the bases loaded in the first inning with no outs, but they were unable to score a run. Robinson Cano grounded back to the pitcher, Gavin Floyd, who started the 1-2-3 double play. Nick Swisher was next and he would strike out with runners on second and third with two outs.

The Yankees would recover from that little blip in the second inning. Eric Chavez tied the game up at two in the second inning with his 2-run shot to right field.

Robinson Cano would give the Yanks' the lead with a 2-run shot of his own to right field in the third inning.

Those were the only runs that the Yankees would need to silent the White Sox and pick up the victory.

Rafael Soriano would come on in the ninth inning and notch his 18th save on the season.

The Yankees will start a three game set with the Rays in St. Petersburg, Florida tomorrow.

Yankees Acquire Chad Qualls from Phillies

The Yankees have picked up the righty Chad Qualls from the Phillies, the New York Post has learned.

The Yankees have either sent over cash or a player to be named later.

Qualls is 1-1 on the year with a 4.60 ERA.

Matt Antonelli has been designated for assignment to make room for Qualls on the 40-man roster.
