The Yankees were able to knock off the Angels for the second consecutive time with their 5-3 win on Saturday. Robinson Cano stayed hot as he extended his hit streak to 17 games and drove in 3 runs.

Freddy Garcia started for the Yankees and he picked up the win. Garcia allowed 3 runs on 5 hits in 5 innings of work. He struck out 4 and walked 5. He threw 98 pitches, which 54 of them were for strikes. His high pitch count led to his early exit.

Down two runs in the bottom of the first, Robinson Cano hit a two-run shot to left field which tied the game. Cano would later drive in another run in the sixth inning with his single to center field that plated Alex Rodriguez. He finished the day 2-4 with 3 runs batted in and 1 run scored.

Curtis Granderson blasted a two-run shot to right field in the third inning, which at the time gave the Yankees a 4-2 lead.

With Garcia's early exit, the bullpen had to finish the game. They pitched four scoreless innings and only allowed 2 hits. They struck out 4 batters combined

Rafael Soriano closed the game out in the ninth and notched his 22nd save.

Joba Chamberlain Throws Two Hitless Innings

Joba Chamberlain continued his rehabilitation program on Saturday when he threw two scoreless innings for the Gulf Coast League Yankees.

Chamberlain threw 19 pitches out of 28 for strikes. His fastball reached 97 MPH for the second consecutive game.

The Yankees could expect Joba back sometime at the end of July, but most likely in August.

The Yankees were able to open their second half with a win over the Angels on Friday. Mark Teixeira drove in five runs in the win with two home runs.

Hiroki Kuroda started for the Yankees and he had an alright start. He allowed 5 runs on 8 hits in 7 1/3 innings pitched. He struck out 6 and walked 1. Kuroda allowed a big three run shot to Mark Trumbo in the seventh inning, which at the time gave the Angels a 4-2 lead.

Mark Teixeira started his second half off right. Teixeira drove in five runs and came through with a three-run shot to tie the game in the eighth inning. He previously hit a two-run shot in the third inning.

Russell Martin has been slumping all season offensively, but he had one of his biggest hits of the season tonight. With runners on 1st and 2nd with two outs in the eighth inning, he lined a go-ahead RBI single to right field which scored DeWayne Wise. Martin is hitting only .181 on the season.

Rafael Soriano would come on in the ninth inning and secure his 21st save on the season. Russell Martin ended the game by throwing out Howie Kendrick on a curveball that skipped away from him.

The Yankees and Angels will continue their series on Saturday.
