The Yankees were unable to defeat the Tigers on Sunday as they were blanked 3-0. The Yankeeso ffense continued to struggle as they were only able to collect four hits.

Hiroki Kuroda started for the Yankees and he was oustanding. Kuroda allowed 3 runs on 5 hits in 7 2/3 innings of work. He struck out 11 batters and did not issue a free pass. Kuroda began the night by striking out five batters out of the first six. Kuroda finished his outing with 103 pitches thrown, in which 69 of them were for strikes.

The Yankee bullpen struggled a bit tonight as Boone Logan, Joba Chamberlain, and Clay Rapada could not record an out. Cody Eppley worked 1 1/3 innings of one hit ball. He struck out 2 and did not walk any.

The Yankee offense continued to struggle as they could not muster any runs tonight. As a team, they were able to collect four hits and were 0-for-5 with runners on scoring position. In addition to that poor number, they stranded seven runners on base.

The Yankees will travel to Detroit and will play Game 3 on Tuesday.

Derek Jeter Injury Update; Will See Specialist

Derek Jeter was further evaluated on Sunday as he underwent an CT scan and an MRI, which confirmed the initial diagnosis of a fracture in his left ankle.

Jeter injured his ankle during the twelfth inning of Game 1 on Saturday. Johnny Peralta, the Tigers shortstop, grounded to shortstop and it appeared as if Derek lost his footing and landed on his ankle.

Joe Girardi confirmed after the game that Jeter would be done for the season and the recovery time in around 3 months.

Jeter will travel visit a foot specialist in North Carolina and will not travel with the team to Detroit.

The Yankees were unable to stop the Tigers on Saturday as they lost 6-4 in twelve innings. Raul Ibanez came up clutch again tonight when he launched a two-run shot to tie the game at four in the ninth inning. Derek Jerer exited in the twelfth inning with a fractured left ankle. Joe Girardi said in a postgame press conference that Jeter will be done for the season and the recovery time is 3 months.

The Yankee offense seemed to get off to a good start as the loaded the bases twice in the first two innings. The opportunities were there for the Yankees, but they were unable to score as they left the bases loaded. The Yankees would load the bases for the third time in the sixth inning, but struck out two times to end the inning.

Down four while going into the ninth inning, Ichiro Suzuki belted a two-run shot to right field to cut their deficit to 4-2. After a strikeout to Cano, and a walk to Mark Teixeira, Raul Ibanez would step to the plate. Ibanez would drill a home run to right field to tie the game up at 4.

The Yankee bullpen pitched well tonight, but David Phelps took the loss. Phelps allowed 2 runs on 3 hits in 1 inning of work. He struck out 1 and walked 1.

The Yankees and Tigers will play Game 2 tomorrow afternoon.
