Andy Pettitte Pitches Four Scoreless Innings

New York Yankees Pitcher Andy Pettitte Warms

Andy Pettitte pitched in his second start today going 4 innings of scoreless ball. He allowed 2 hits, but both of them singles. He struck out 3 and walked 0.

Andy Pettitte is going to get 3-4 more starts before returning to the Yankees'. He is hoping to make his first big league start of the year sometime in early May.

The Yankees' could use some reinforcement. With Phil Hughes and Freddy Garcia struggling, you would hope that Pettitte could bring some good fortune to the Bronx.

Yanks' Fall to Angels 7-1

New York Yankees starting pitcher Phil Hughes scratches his head as he heads to the dugout during MLB American League baseball game at Yankee Stadium in New York

Phil Hughes had a rough outing Saturday against the Angels. He gave up 6 ER on 8 hits in 3.1 innings pitched. He walked 2 and struck out 6. His record falls to 0-2.

Hughes let up home runs to Chris Iannetta and Howie Kendrick. Albert Pujols hit a double off of him in the 3rd.

Joe Girardi had a few comments on Hughes performance.

''You don’t get too concerned yet. It’s still early in the season,'' Girardi said. ''His arm strength is there. The same arm strength he had when he won those 18 games for us. It’s just a matter of making more consistent pitches.''

The Yankees' are expected to get Michael Pineda and Andy Pettitte back in May. Hughes is still auditioning for a spot in the rotation.

Davild Phelps would come on to relieve Hughes and pitch 5.1 terrific innings of work. He struck out 4 but let up a home run to Vernon Wells. Phelps has some talent that the Yankees' could use.

Ivan Nova looks to continue his hot streak tomorrow against the Angels at the Stadium.

Yanks' Take Home Opener

New York Yankees Starting Pitcher Hiroki Kuroda, Of Japan, Delivers

The Yankees' won their home opener yesterday thanks to an absolute gem by Hiroki Kuroda and a bomb by Alex Rodriguez.

Hiroki Kuroda allowed 0 runs on 5 hits over 8.0 innings. He struck out 6 and walked 2. He evened his record at 1-1.

Nick Swisher provided some offense in the bottom half of the first with a bases clearing double to center field. This gave them a 3-0 lead early on.

"I thought that was real important; you start a rally there with two outs and are able to three runs off a really good pitcher," Joe Girardi said. "Our guys were patient, took their walks, i thought that was important."

Alex Rodriguez looked good after moving to the 3 hole. He hit a solo home run in the 3rd and he had 3 hits in 4 at bats.

Curtis Granderson also went deep in the 5th to give the Yankees' a 5-0 lead. That was his second bomb of the year. He hit 41 last year.

The Yankees' will face C.J. Wilson tomorrow afternoon for game 2 of 3 against the Angels.
