Yanks' Lose Tough One to Angels

The Yankees and Angels battled back and fourth tonight, but the Angels came out on top by a score of 9-8.

Phil Hughes started for the Yankees, but didn't look sharp. The Yankees quickly gave Hughes a 3-0 lead in the 1st inning, but Hughes gave it all back when he allowed 4 runs in the 1st.

Phil Hughes allowed 7 runs on 11 hits in 5 1/3 innings pitched. He struck out 3 and did not issue a walk.

The Angels starter, Jered Weaver, left in the 1st inning with an back injury.

The Yankees offense was able to get 10 hits off of Angels pitching. Mark Teixeira hit a solo home run in the 5th inning. He also would single and walk 3 times.

The Yankees scored 3 in the 1st, 1 in the 2nd, 1 in the 5th, and 3 in the 7th.

Corey Wade picked up the loss tonight when he allowed a walk off home run to Mark Trumbo in the 9th inning.

The Yankees and Angels will play game 2 tomorrow night.
