The Yankees were able to open their second half with a win over the Angels on Friday. Mark Teixeira drove in five runs in the win with two home runs.

Hiroki Kuroda started for the Yankees and he had an alright start. He allowed 5 runs on 8 hits in 7 1/3 innings pitched. He struck out 6 and walked 1. Kuroda allowed a big three run shot to Mark Trumbo in the seventh inning, which at the time gave the Angels a 4-2 lead.

Mark Teixeira started his second half off right. Teixeira drove in five runs and came through with a three-run shot to tie the game in the eighth inning. He previously hit a two-run shot in the third inning.

Russell Martin has been slumping all season offensively, but he had one of his biggest hits of the season tonight. With runners on 1st and 2nd with two outs in the eighth inning, he lined a go-ahead RBI single to right field which scored DeWayne Wise. Martin is hitting only .181 on the season.

Rafael Soriano would come on in the ninth inning and secure his 21st save on the season. Russell Martin ended the game by throwing out Howie Kendrick on a curveball that skipped away from him.

The Yankees and Angels will continue their series on Saturday.
