The Yankees snapped their five-game losing streak on Friday night as C.C. Sabathia pitched a gem against the Red Sox. In the 4-1 win, Sabathia matched his season high in strikeouts with ten and did not walk a batter as he proved why he is the ace of this staff. Mark Teixeira and Kevin Youkilis both returned to the lineup tonight and with their names penciled in, there just seemed to be a different feel to this lineup. Combined, they went 1-for-7 with a walk and four strikeouts.

C.C. Sabathia allowed one run on six hits in seven and a third inning of work. He struck out ten and did not walk a batter. He finished his outing with 109 pitches thrown, in which 73 of them were for strikes.

The Yankee offense came to live in the second inning. Jayson Nix started the scoring with a RBI single to left field to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, Ichiro Suzuki would add with a RBI single of his own to make it a 2-0 game.

The Yankees would tack on one run in the fifth on a Youkilis single and a run in the seventh on a Gardner single.

Mariano Rivera came on in the ninth inning and shut the door to seal the 4-1 win for the Yankees.

The Yankees and Red Sox will continue their three-game series tomorrow night.
