The Yankees were able to defeat the Astros 7-4 on Tuesday, one night after they were blown out by the worst team in the American League. Hiroki Kuroda struggled with his command early on, but did not allow a run even though his pitch count was elevated early. Travis Hafner carried the Yankees offense with three runs batted in tonight.

Hiroki Kuroda allowed no runs on four hits in seven innings of work. He struck out eight, but walked four. He finished his outing with 108 pitches thrown, in which 71 of them were for strikes.

Travis Hafner was red hot tonight as he collected three hits in four at-bats and drove in three runs. Brennan Boesch, Lyle Overbay, Jayson Nix, and Chris Stewart drove in the other four runs in the win tonight.

Mariano Rivera came on in the ninth inning and collected his tenth save in ten opportunities.

The Yankees and Astros will conclude their three game set tomorrow night.

Yankees place Kevin Youkilis on the disabled list

The Yankees have announced on Tuesday that they have placed infielder Kevin Youkilis on the 15-day disabled list with a lumbar spine sprain.

Kevin Youkilis missed six days before being inserted into the lineup on Saturday against the Blue Jays. He was hitless in three at-bats and hasn't been in the lineup since.

Youkilis underwent an MRI on Monday and the results came back negative. He was given an epidural injection on Tuesday to alleviate the pain. Yankee Manager Joe Girardi said that Youkilis is expected to begin baseball activities in seven to ten days.

The Yankees have recalled infielder Corbin Joeseph from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to replace Youkilis.

The Yankees were able to complete their first four game sweep of the Blue Jays since 1995 today as they defeated them 3-2. Phil Hughes was very impressive today as he picked up nine strikeouts in the win. Lyle Overbay hit a two-run shot in the seventh inning off of knuckle baller, R.A. Dickey, to give them the lead, which they would not surrender.

Hughes allowed two runs on seven hits in six innings of work. He struck out nine batters and walked two. He finished his outing with 111 pitches, in which 76 of them were for strikes. Hughes caught a bad break in the fourth inning as he allowed one run on three soft hit balls with two outs. But besides that inning, Hughes pitched an outstanding game and this outing can only be taken as a positive sign.

Brennan Boesch put the Yankees on the board in the second inning with a solo shot to right field. The next time the Yankees scored was Lyle Overbay's go ahead two-run shot to right center field in the seventh inning.

Mariano Rivera came on to pitch the ninth inning and he picked up his ninth save in nine opportunities.

The Yankees will take their four game winning streak with them tomorrow as they welcome the Houston Astro's into the Bronx.

The Yankees were able to defeat the Blue Jays on Saturday for a third consecutive time as they defeated them 6-4. Travis Hafner gave the Yankees a big boost today as he hit a three-run shot as well as a RBI triple. C.C. Sabathia struggled early on again, but managed to pitch eight innings and picked up his fourth win in April as a result.

Sabathia allowed four runs, three earned, on nine hits in eight innings of work. He struck out four batters and did not walk any. Sabathia struggled early on as the Blue Jays were up 3-0 at one point. He gave up one run in the third inning and two runs in the fourth. He finished his outing with 112 pitches thrown, in which 80 of them were for strikes.

Travis Hafner was the spark for the Yankees today as he drove in four runs with a home run and a triple. Down 3-0 in the fourth, Hafner hammered a pitch to right-center field to tie the game at three. Later in the game Travis Hafner would come up big again as he drilled a triple to center field, which scored Vernon Wells, to give the Yankees a 6-4 lead.

Joba Chamberlain pitched the ninth inning and shut the door to pick up the win for the Yankees.

The Yankees and Blue Jays will conclude their four game set tomorrow afternoon.

Roster Moves: Cervelli, Nova, Nuno, Romine

The Yankees have made some roster moves on Saturday as they placed two players on the disabled list along with calling up two players from Triple-A.

Francisco Cervelli and Ivan Nova have been placed on the 15-day disabled list due to their injuries they suffered on Friday. Cervelli underwent successful surgery to repair his fractured right hand while Ivan Nova has been diagnosed with right tricep inflammation.

As a result of their injuries, the Yankees have called up catcher, Austin Romine, and left-hander, Vidal Nuno. Nuno will serve as the teams long reliever in the bullpen as David Phelps will replace Ivan Nova in the rotation.

Nuno posted a 1-1 record with a 0.61 ERA in seven games during spring training. With his outstanding performance in spring training, Nuno earned the 2013 James P. Dawson award, which is an award given annually to the Yankee rookie that performs the best during spring training.

In other news, the Yankees have moved Derek Jeter from the 15-day DL to the 60-day DL in order to make room for Vidal Nuno on the 40-man roster.

Despite losing Ivan Nova and Francisco Cervelli tonight due to injuries, the Yankees were able to defeat the Blue Jays 6-4. The Yankees lost Francisco Cervelli in the first inning and has been diagnosed with a fractured right hand, while Ivan Nova exited in the third with pain in his throwing arm. David Phelps replaced Nova and picked up his first win of the season.

Nova allowed two runs on four hits in the two innings that he pitched tonight. Nova struck out two batters and did not allow a walk. He threw only 54 pitches, in which 36 of them were for strikes before being lifted.

The long reliever in the Yankee pen', David Phelps, would allow one run on 2 hits in four innings of work. He struck out nine and walked two. With his win tonight, he evened his record to 1-1 on the year.

Eduardo Nunez drove in the Yankees first run tonight with his force out in the second inning to tie the game at one. After allowing a run in the top of the third, the Yankees got it right back on a Vernon Wells sacrifice fly to left field.

Lyle Overbay would pick up his first hit in fourteen at-bats when he drove in Eduardo Nunez in the fourth inning with his RBI triple. Overbay would then come into score on a wild pitch, making it a 4-2 Yankee lead. The Yankees would pick up a huge run in the seventh inning in a 5-4 game when Robinson Cano scored on a passed ball by J.P. Arencibia to increase their lead to 5-3.

Jose Bautista would pull the Jays' a bit closer as he launched a long home run in the eighth inning off of David Robertson to shrink the Yankees lead to 5-4.

Brett Gardner was able to get that run back in the bottom half of the eighth inning with his solo shot to right field.

Mariano Rivera came on in the ninth inning to secure the 6-4 win. Rivera worked into and out of trouble as he loaded the bases, but did not allow a run. Rivera is now 8-for-8 on the season in saves.

The Yankees and Blue Jays will continue their four game set tomorrow afternoon.

Ivan Nova injures elbow; Exits game in the third

Ivan Nova is the latest player to suffer an injury as he left the game in the third inning on Friday with pain in his throwing arm. It is unclear if it's his elbow that is experiencing pain or around the elbow.

Nova was 54 pitches into his outing before being pulled and had allowed one run on four hits. He hit Munenori Kawasaki with a pitch to begin the third, then allowed a single to Raji Davis before he exited the game.

There has been no update on Ivan Nova's condition, but we will update you as soon as we get more information.

Francisco Cervelli exits game in the first; Fractures hand

Update: The Yankees have announced that Cervelli has fractured his right hand and will miss a minmium of six weeks.

The Yankees must deal with another injury as Francisco Cervelli left the game just five pitches into the first inning. Cervelli's right hand was clipped by a ball that was fouled off by Rajai Davis.

Cervelli would eventually leave the game after being examined by Steve Donahue. Chris Stewart would enter the game at catcher and fifth in the batting order.

We will update you on his condition as soon as we find out.

The Yankees were able to take the opener of their four-game set with the Blue Jays on Thursday as they defeated them 5-3. Robinson Cano made the difference tonight as his three-run shot got the Yankees off and running and they didn't look back after that. Hiroki Kuroda was able to pick up his third win of the season, even though he struggled to start the game.

Kuroda allowed three runs on six hits in six innings of work. He struck out three batters and walked only one. Kuroda was a little shaky in the first couple of innings as he allowed two runs in the first and one run in the second, but he would regroup and finish his outing strong. He thew 103 pitches in the game and 65 of them were for strikes.

The Yankee bullpen did their part tonight in support of Kuroda. Joba Chamberlain worked a scoreless seventh inning, but he did surrender a hit. David Robertson would follow up with a scoreless eighth inning, which set up Mariano Rivera for the ninth inning.

Vernon Wells put the Yankees on the board in the second inning with his solo home run off of Mark Buehrle, who he has virtually owned in his career. Wells is 24-51 (.470) with three home runs and ten runs batted in.

The Yankees were given a boost in the third inning thanks to Robinson Cano, who launched a three-run shot to give the Yankees a 4-3 lead.

With a 4-3 lead, the Yankees weren't done. Francisco Cervelli decided to join the home run list as he launched a solo shot in the fourth inning.

Yanks' bullpen falters in loss to Jays'

The Yankees were unable to finish off a sweep of the Blue Jays on Sunday as they were defeated 8-4 in a game they were once leading in.

Ivan Nova started for the Yankees and he had his typical outing, which consists of a high pitch count early, high number of walks, and a short outing. Nova allowed four runs on seven hits in five innings of work. He struck out five and walked four batters. He finished his outing with 101 pitches thrown, in which 56 of them were for strikes. Many people, including myself, were surprised that Nova would stay in the game until the fifth inning. After the first inning, he had already thrown 30 pitches.

The Yankee offense was able to muster out eleven hits in their loss. Brett Gardner, Robinson Cano, Vernon Wells, Jayson Nix, and Chris Stewart all had multi-hit games.

White trailing 2-0 in the third inning, Chris Stewart belted a leadoff home run, which hit off of the right field foul screen. The Yankees would score two more in the fifth inning on two bases loaded walks. Their final run scored would come in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly by Brett Gardner.

The Yankee bullpen struggled today as Boone Logan failed to record an out on a lefty and David Phelps continued to struggle.

The Yankees and Blue Jays will meet again on Thursday to begin a four game set at Yankee Stadium.

The Yankees were able to come out with a win today as they defeated the Blue Jays 5-3 in eleven inning. What once was a 3-0 lead was washed away in the eighth inning, but the Yankees recovered and scored two in the eleventh. inning. Hiroki Kuroda was outstanding again today as he gave them a stellar outing.

Hiroki Kuroda allowed one run on three hits in seven and a third innings of work. He struck out seven and walked only one. Kuroda finished his outing with 108 pitches thrown, in which 64 of them were for strikes.

David Robertson replaced Kuroda with one out in the seventh and surrendered three runs, which tied the game at three.

The bullpen, excluding Robertson, was solid today. Joba Chamberlain was electric as his fastball hit 98 on the radar gun, which was backed up with a hard slider. Boone Logan did a good job today as well as Shawn Kelley.

The Yankee offense got on the board in the second inning when Vernon Wells lined a solo shot off of the right field foul screen. They would tack on two more runs in the fifth inning on a Kevin Youkilis two-run single.

With the game tied at three in the eleventh inning, the Yankees had runners on first and second with no outs. Francisco Cervelli was on first and Vernon Wells was on second as they both reached on singles. Ichiro Suzuki was up and he laid down a bunt that was fielding cleanly by Aaron Loup. Loup tried to get the lead runner at third base, but threw the ball wide of the bag. Vernon Wells and Francisco Cervelli would both score on the throwing error.

Mariano Rivera came on in the eleventh inning and locked down his fifth save of the season.

The Yankees and Blue Jays will complete their three game set tomorrow afternoon

Kevin Youkilis exits game due to lower back stiffness

Kevin Youkilis was removed from Saturday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays due to lower back stiffness. Youkilis did not come out to first base for the bottom half of the sixth inning.

Youkilis lined a two-run single to left field in the top of the fifth inning, and there were no signs of any pain or discomfort.

With another game tomorrow afternoon on the turf at Rogers Centre, it is likely that Youkilis will be given the day off. Let it be said that once they leave Toronto, the team will travel to Tampa Bay to play three more games on a turf field.

Kevin Youkilis dealt with some back problems last year and appeared in 122 games for the Red Sox and White Sox.

The Yankees were able to defeat the Blue Jays 9-4 after Andy Pettitte made his return and picked up the win. Pettitte, who has been sidelined for about a week with back spasms, picked up his third win of this young season and number 248 of his career.

Andy Pettitte allowed three runs on six hits in seven and a third innings of work. He struck out five and walked only one. He finished his outing after throwing 90 pitches, in which 61 of them were for strikes.

The Yankee offense got off to a quick start as they scored two runs in the first inning. Travis Hafner doubled in a run and Vernon Wells drove in Kevin Youkilis with an RBI groundout.

The Yankees would tack on three more runs in the third inning. Travis Hafner hit his fifth home run on the year, a solo shot to left field, to increase their lead to 3-1. Eduardo Nunez would fly out to center field but two runs would score on a throwing error by Colby Rasmus.

Lyle Overbay hit a solo shot to center field with one out in the sixth to make it a 6-1 lead. Francisco Cervelli would follow up with a ground-rule double and would score on Brett Gardner's triple one batter later. This was the second inning in the game where they put up a three spot.

Vernon Wells also contributed with a solo shot in the seventh inning, which made it a 9-3 lead.

The Yankee bullpen was given a rest tonight. Shawn Kelley finished the ballgame as threw an inning and two thirds. He allowed one run on one hit. The only hit he gave up was a solo shot to J.P. Arencibia.

The Yankees and Blue Jays will continue their three game set tomorrow afternoon.

The Yankees were unable to sweep the Diamondbacks as they forced extra innings, but came up short in the twelfth. Francisco Cervelli hit a game-tying solo shot in the ninth inning to tie the game up at two. Unfortunately  the Yankee pitching would allow four runs in the twelfth inning, which led to a loss.

Phil Hughes started for the Yankees and he had a solid outing. Hughes allowed two runs on six hits in seven innings of work. He struck out six and did not issue a free pass. He finished his outing with 109 pitches thrown, in which 75 of them were for strikes.

The Yankee offense struggled early on as they struck out seven times against opposing starter, Joseph Corbin. Robinson Cano would get the Yankees on the board in the sixth inning with a solo shot to right-center field.

Trailing 2-1 in the ninth, Francisco Cervelli hit a solo shot to left field to tie the game up at two.

David Phelps took the loss as he allowed four runs, three earned, on four hits in two innings of work. The rest of the bullpen was sharp again, which consisted off Boone Logan, Joba Chamberlain, and David Robertson. Combined, they allowed three hits and no runs.

The Yankees will travel to Toronto and begin a three game set tomorrow night.

Yankees lose Jeter until after All-Star break

The Yankees received bad news on Thursday as they leaned that their All-Star shortstop, Derek Jeter, will likely be out until after the All-Star break.

Jeter, who has been dealing with soreness in his surgically repaired right ankle, visited Dr. Robert Anderson in Charlotte, N.C., on Thursday. After undergoing a CT scan, it showed that Jeter had a small crack in the same spot where he underwent surgery.

Jeter will not have to undergo another surgery and the healing time for this injury is four to eight weeks.

Down 3-0 in the seventh inning, the Yankees were able to put together a two out rally to score three runs and tie the game. Travis Hafner would pinch-hit in the eighth inning and hit a go-ahead home run to give the Yankees a 4-3 lead.

C.C. Sabathia started for the Yankees and what seemed to be a bad outing for the ace, turned into a really good one. Sabathia allowed three runs on six hits in eight innings of work. He struck out six and walked only one batter. Sabathia threw 30 pitches in the first and gave up a two-run shot, which led to speculation
that it would be a shortened start for him. He finished his outing with 108 pitches thrown, in which 77 of them were for strikes.

After struggling in the first six innings of the game, he Yankee offense came to life in the seventh inning. With two outs in the seventh inning and a runner on first base, the Yankee bats suddenly started to work. Brennan Boesch would hit a two-out double to move Ben Francisco to third, who singled with one out in the inning. Eduardo Nunez would work a walk to load the bases. Jayson Nix would walk in a run, which allowed Brett Gardner to hit his game-tying two-run single to left field.

Travis Hafner would be called upon in the eighth inning to pinch-hit and he would come through. On a first pitch fastball, Hafner launched a home run to right-center field to give them a 4-3 lead.

Mariano Rivera would do his part and shut the door to earn his fourth save of the season.
