The Yankees were unable to solve the Rays on Wednesday as they were defeated 3-0 in the series finale. Andy Pettitte gave the Yankees some quality innings, but a defensive blunder by Brennan Boesch probably was the game changer. With his loss tonight, Andy Pettitte goes to 3-1 on the year with a 2.22 ERA this season.

Pettitte allowed three runs, two earned, on seven hits in six innings of work. He struck out ten batters and only walked one. He finished his outing with 105 pitches thrown, in which 68 of them were for strikes.

The Yankee offense was shut down by Rays starter, Alex Cobb, who hurled eight and a third scoreless innings. They were able to muster only four hits in the game tonight. Overall, the team was 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position and they left four men on base.

The Yankees will return home and begin a four-game set with the Blue Jays tomorrow.
