The Yankees have defeated the Red Sox 7-3 on Sunday night to take the four game set 3-1. Ivan Nova was able to get the job done tonight as he struck out 10 Red Sox batters.

Nova allowed 2 runs, 1 earned, on 6 hits in 6 innings of work. He struck out 10 and walked 2. He threw 111 pitches, in which 73 of them were for strikes. Nova increased his record to 10-3 going into the break.

The Yankees scored in the first inning again, their fourth time in this series, to take an early lead. With runners on first and second, Mark Teixeira doubled in a run to make it a 1-0 game. Robinson Cano walked two batters later to load the bases with only one out. Nick Swisher would follow and he would ground into a force out, which could have been a double play if it was not thrown away. The Yankees ended the inning with a 2-0 lead.

The Yankees would go on to score one in the second, two in the fifth, and two in the seventh.

Andruw Jones launched his fourth home run in three games against the Red Sox. He hit a two run shot to left field in the seventh inning.

The Yankees will enjoy their week off and prepare for the second half of the season.
