The Yankee offense did it's part as they were able to score six runs for Sabathia. Curtis Granderson, Robinson Cano, and Eric Chavez both drove in two runs in the win. Granderson drove in two with his single in the third inning, Chavez hit a two-run shot in the sixth inning, and Cano drove in two with his two-run single in the seventh.

Mark Teixeira returned from his wrist injury and started at first base. Nick Swisher played right field for the first time since he injured his hip in Oakland.

Ichiro Suzuki was able extended his hitting streak to 10 games with his infield single in the third inning. He has reached base safely in every game that he has been with the Yankees.

The Yankees and Mariners will play game 2 of 3 tomorrow afternoon.
