Sabathia, Yanks' Take Opener; Snap Skid

The Yankees were able to defeat the Indians 3-1 on Friday as they were given an outstanding start by their ace, C.C. Sabathia.

Sabathia allowed 1 run on 9 hits in 7 1/3 innings of work. He struck out 9 batters and only walked 1. He exited with 100 pitches thrown, in which 63 of them were for strikes. With his win tonight, Sabathia increased him record to 13-3 on the year.

Nick Swisher continued his hot hitting as he recorded 3 hits and drove in three runs. Swisher blasted a go-ahead two-run shot in the seventh inning to give the Yankees a 3-1 lead.

Rafael Soriano came on in the ninth and worked in and out of trouble to record in 32nd save of the season.

The Yankees and Indians will continue their series on Saturday.
