The Yankees came out swinging and took the opener of this three game set against the Blue Jays by a score of 10-4.

Freddy Garcia started for the Yankees and he had a good outing. He allowed 2 runs on 5 hits in 6 innings of work. He struck out 4 and did not issue a walk. Garcia threw 78 pitches, in which 51 of them were for strikes.

Boone Logan relieved Garcia to begin the seventh inning and he retired the two batters that he faced. Joba Chamberlain came on with two outs in the seventh and was able to get Jeff Mathis to pop out to end the inning. Joba would begin the eighth inning departed after he allowed a leadoff single to Anthony Gose. David Robertson relieved Joba and allowed a walk to Rajai Davis. Anthony Gose would score second and third base during the at-bat, so there were runners on the corners with no outs. Robertson would get Colby Rasmus to ground into a double play, but Gose would score from third. Edwin Encarnacion would pop-out to the first basemen, Nick Swisher, to end the inning. Clay Rapada would start the ninth inning, but would not be able to finish it. Rapada allowed two hits and  a balk, but did record two outs. Cody Eppley would come into the ballgame and allow a run scoring single to Jeff Mathis before striking out Anthony Gose to end the game.

The Yankee offense was led by Ichiro Suzuki, who drove in five runs tonight. Ichiro grounded into a force out in the second, laced a two-run single to center in the eighth inning, and hit a two-run double to left in the ninth inning, which was lost in the lights by Rajai Davis.

Mark Teixeira ripped his 22nd homer of the season in the eighth inning, which at the time gave them a two-run lead.

The Yankees would go on to score four more runs in the eighth inning, which blew the game wide open.

The Yankees and Blue Jays will play the middle game of their three game set tomorrow afternoon.
