The Yankees were unable to defeat the Rays Tuesday night as they were defeated 5-2. With their loss, the Yankees have lost sole possession of first place in the American League East, as they are now tied with the Baltimore Orioles.

Freddy Garcia started for the Yankees and he struggled with command. Garcia allowed 5 runs on 5 hits in 5 1/3 innings of work. He struck out 5, but walked 4. Garcia threw 101 pitches, in which 62 of them were for strikes.

Robinson Cano was the source of the Yankee offense as his two-run shot in the first inning accounted for their only two runs of the game.

The Yankees and Rays will wrap up their three game set tomorrow night.
