David Phelps started for the Yankees and he did not have his best stuff. Phelps allowed 3 runs on 3 hits in 4 2/3 innings of work. He struck out 3 but walked 6 batters.
The Yankee bullpen was outstanding today as they worked 4 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball. They only allowed 1 hit and they struck out 3 while walking only 2.
The Yankees were able to get their offense going in the seventh inning when they were down 3-1. Steve Pearce led off the inning with his first Yankee hit. After a fly out by Russell Martin, Jayson Nix worked a walk. The september call-up, Eduardo Nunez, came through with an RBI single to center field to cut the Orioles lead to 3-2. Ichiro Suzuki was up next and he worked a walk to load the bases. Derek Jeter came all the way back from an 0-2 count to work a walk which scored Jayson Nix from third base. The Yankees would take the lead when Nick Swisher reached on a fielding error by shortstop, J.J. Hardy.
Rafael Soriano would work the ninth inning and he was able to notch his 35th save of the season.
The Yankees and Orioles will conclude their three game series tomorrow afternoon.
