Yanks' Lose Close Game Against Rays

The Yankees were unable to take the opener against the Rays on Friday as they were defeated 6-4. C.C. Sabathia continued to struggle as he gave away the lead once again.

Sabathia allowed 4 runs on 6 hits in 6 2/3 innings of work. He struck out 3 and walked 2. Sabathia finished his outing with 110 pitches, in which 73 of them were for strikes.

Curtis Granderson hit is 38th home run in the fifth inning to cut the Rays lead to 3-2. Alex Rodriguez would later hit a two-run shot in the eighth inning to shrink their deficit to 1.

Steve Pearce also drove in a run with his RBI single in the second inning.

The Yankees were unable to rally against Fernando Rodney in the ninth inning as they were retired in order.

The Yankees and Rays will continue their three game set tomorrow afternoon.
