The Yankees were unable to complete their sweep against the Athletics as they were defeated 5-4 in a close game.

Hiroki Kuroda started for the Yankees and he struggled in his outing. Kuroda allowed 5 runs, 4 earned, on 7 hits in 5 2/3 innings of work. He struck out 5, but walked 3. He finished his outing with 102 pitches thrown, in which 62 of them were for strikes.

The Yankee offense did their damage in the fourth inning when they scored four runs. Nick Swisher highlighted the inning with a two-run shot to right field.
