The Yankees were able to regain sole possession of first place in the American League East on Monday with their 10-2 win over the Red Sox. C.C. Sabathia was able to pick up his 15th win of the season.

Sabathia allowed 2 runs on 4 hits in 8 innings of work. He struck out 7 and walked only 1 batter. Sabathia threw 103 pitches, in which 69 of them were for strikes. Sabathia located all of his pitches well tonight and his change-up was solid tonight. The Yankees could have lifted Sabathia early in the game due to their huge lead, but they elected to stay with him through eight innings.

The Yankees lived up to their name in the second inning when they belted four home runs, which was the first time they had accomplished that feat.

Robinson Cano, Curtis Granderson, Russell Martin, and Mark Teixeira all hit home runs in their nine run second inning.

Alex Rodriguez snapped his RBI drought tonight when he hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Eric Chavez in the fourth inning. Rodriguez went 50 at-bats without collecting a RBI.

Melky Mesa collected his first big league hit tonight in the eighth inning when he hit a RBI single to left field to score Eduardo Nunez. Mesa has made his name known around here when he missed third base in their 14 inning affair with the Oakland Athletics on September 22nd.

The Yankee bullpen was able to get some rest tonight as Freddy Garcia was the only man used.

The Yankees and Red Sox will continue their three game set tomorrow night.
