Andy Pettitte placed on disabled list

The Yankees have announced that they have placed left-hander Andy Pettitte on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left trapezius muscle.

After striking out two consecutive batters in the fifth inning, Pettitte was removed from the game. Pettitte said after the game that his back locked up during the inning and that he was unable to continue.

The Yankees have recalled Vidal Nuno from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre and he will take Pettitte's spot in the rotation.

Andy Petitte is expected to resume his season as soon as his stint is over on the disabled list.
