The Yankees defeated the Blue Jays 5-0 in the opener of their three-game set as Hiroki Kuroda picked up his sixth win with his outstanding performance tonight.

Kuroda allowed no runs on two hits in eight innings of work. He struck out five and walked only one. He finished his outing with 108 pitches, in which 67 of them were for strikes. Kuroda looked good from the start. Besides the leadoff double by Melky Cabrera in the first inning, Kuroda cruised through the Blue Jays lineup.

The Yankees got on the board quickly tonight as Brett Gardner tripled to open the first inning and scored on Robinson Cano's ground out.

With a 2-0 lead in the seventh inning, the Yankees opened the game up as they scored three more runs to pad their lead to 5-0. David Adams led off the inning with a double and Ichiro Suzuki followed with a bunt single. Austin Romine picked up his second RBI of the season with an double down the left field line to score Adams. Ichiro came around to score on the Gardner single and Romine scored one batter later on the sacrifice fly by Jayson Nix.

Preston Claiborne pitched a scoreless ninth to end the ballgame.

The Yankees and Blue Jays will continue their three-game set tomorrow afternoon.
