The Yankees defeated the Royals 11-6 on Friday night as Lyle Overbay collected four hits and drove in five runs. Phil Hughes collected his second win of the season tonight, however he wasn't very sharp.

Hughes allowed six runs on seven hits in five and two thirds innings of work. He struck out three and walked two. He finished his outing with 98 pitches thrown, in which 70 of them were for strikes.

The Yankee offense jumped on Royals pitching tonight. They plated four runs in the second inning and added five more in the sixth inning. Six players in the Yankees starting lineup collected multiple hits.

Shawn Kelley and Boone Logan came out of the bullpen tonight and they were excellent. In three and a third innings of work, they did not allow a hit and they struck out eight.

The Yankees and Royals will continue their series tomorrow night.
