The Yankees were unable to snap their three game losing streak on Wednesday as they were defeated by the Mets 9-4. David Phelps recorded only one out in the first inning and he gave up five runs. The Yankees tried to overcome the early deficit, but it was just too much.
Phelps allowed five runs. four of them earned, on four hits in one third of an inning. He struck out one and walked two. He threw 31 pitches, in which 16 of them were for strikes.
Preston Claiborne came into the game and pitched a solid one and two third innings.
Adam Warren and Ivan Nova both got some work in tonight as they were the long relievers used.
The Yankees tried to battle back, but were unable to. They scored one run in the fourth inning, two runs in the sixth inning, and one in the ninth inning.
The Yankees and Mets will conclude the Subway Series tomorrow night.
