Garcia Struggles in Loss Against Tigers

Freddy Garcia continued to struggle as he was only able to get 5 outs before getting pulled by Joe Girardi. Garcia allowed 6 runs and 5 hits in 1 2/3 innings. He struck out 3 and walked 2. His ERA is up to 12.51 on the season.

The Yankee bullpen worked 7 1/3 innings today. They limited the Tigers to 2 hits and 1 run.

The Yankees offense couldn't find their way today after being down early. Nick Swisher homered twice and Curtis Granderson hit a solo shot.

The Yankees' were making a comeback in the 9th by scoring 3 runs. Eric Chavez stepped up to the plate as the tying run but he flied out to deep right to end the game.

The Yankees and Tigers will play the finale of this 3 game set tomorrow with C.C. Sabathia taking the mound for the Yankees.

Yanks' Walk Off on Passed Ball

The Yankees' and Tigers played game 1 of this 3 game set tonight and it was the Yankees' that came out on top. Ivan Nova started for the Yankees and he didn't look as sharp as he was in his previous outings. Nova allowed 6 runs on 11 hits. He walked 3, but struck out 5.

The Yankees' were able to score on Verlander quickly after an RBI single by Alex Rodriguez gave them the lead in the first inning. The Tigers quickly bounced back and scored 1 in the 2nd inning and 2 in the 3rd inning, but the Yankee offense would battle back.

Alex Rodriguez started the 4th inning off with a solo shot and Russell Martin would hit a 2 run shot in the 5th inning to give the Yankees the 4-3 lead.

The Tigers would regain the lead in the 6th after a double by Jhonny Peralta and a single by Ryan Raburn. Raburn would advance to 2nd on a wild pitch by Nova. Austin Jackson was next and he drove in both runs with a RBI double to right. After intentionally walking Miguel Cabrera, Prince Fielder would hit an RBI single to give the Tigers the 6-4 lead.

The Yankees' would trim the lead to 1 after a 2 out double by Nick Swisher and a fielding error by Don Kelly in left field on a line drive by Raul Ibanez.

In the 8th inning, the Yankees' would tie the game. Alex Rodriguez started the inning off with a single to right and Robinson Cano would follow with a single of his own to right. Alex Rodriguez would move to third. Mark Teixeira was next and he hit a sacrifice fly to plate Alex Rodriguez and tie the game. They would not score again in the inning.

Mariano Rivera came on in the 9th and shut down the Tigers.

Derek Jeter earned a 1 out walk with nobody on. He would advanced to 2nd on a walk to Curtis Granderson, but the ball was in the dirt and scattered away from Alex Avila. Derek Jeter would take advantage and move to 3rd on the wild pitch. Alex Rodriguez was up next, but Alex Avila mishandled a pitch from Brayan Villarreal and Derek Jeter would come home to score the game winning run.

The Yankees and Tigers will play Game 2 tomorrow at 4:05.

The Yankees and Tigers look to have an ALDS rematch tonight. Ivan Nova will take the mound for the Yankees and he squares off against the powerful Verlander for the Tigers.

Hughes Disappoints in Final Against Rangers

Phil Hughes had another pour outing tonight in the loss to the dangerous Texas Rangers by a final score of 7-3. Hughes was hoping to have a good start to secure a spot in the rotation, but he was unsuccessful.

Hughes allowed 4 runs on 5 hits. He lasted only 2 2/3 innings. He struck out 2 and walked 0.

Clay Rapada relieved Hughes to get out of the jam. He pitched 1/3 of an inning.

David Phelps was called on to provide a long relief outing. He struggled too tonight. He gave up 3 runs on 5 hits. He walked 3 and struck out 1. Mike Napoli and Mitch Moreland both went deep off of him.

Derek Jeter increased his hit streak tonight to 15 games. He went 2-4.

The Yankees' have an off day tomorrow, but they will be back at the Stadium on Friday night. They conclude this road trip with a 3-2 record.
