Roster Moves: Eppley, Wise, and Mitchell

The Yankees have called up right handed pitcher Cody Eppley and outfielder Dewayne Wise. Eppley has been called up and D.J. Mitchell has been optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Eppley has pitched in 4 games for the Yankees this season. He has given up 1 run on 4 hits in 5.1 innings this year. He has an ERA of 1.69 on the year.

Eppley was sent down to Triple-A Scranton/Wikes-Barre on April 29th to make room for D.J. Mitchell, but now Mitchell is the one being sent down and Eppley will be recalled.

Dewayne Wise has also been called up and the Yankees purchased his contract.

Dewayne Wise has played 9 years in the big leagues, with his most recent being with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2011. He signed a minor league contract with the Yankees during the offseason.

On a side note, Mariano Rivera has been placed on the 15-day disabled list and Michael Pineda has been placed on the 60-day disabled list.

Mariano Rivera: "I'm Coming Back"

According to many sources, Mariano Rivera will indeed return in 2012 or 2013 as the Yankees closer.

"I'm coming back. Write it down in big letters. I'm not going out like this," Rivera told reporters. "I love to play the game and i don't think to me going out like this is the right way."

Mariano Rivera posted this on his Twitter account shortly after speaking to reporters.

It looks like the greatest closer of all time is looking to make a comeback and pitch again in pinstripes. Rivera will most likely return in 2013.

The Yankees dropped the series opener tonight to the Kansas City Royals. The Yankees could not get the job done after stranding 10 runners on base. The Yankees are just not playing good baseball. They are 4.5 back in the AL East.

David Phelps took the lose tonight in his first major league start. Phelps allowed 2 runs on 6 hits in 4 innings of work. He struck out 5 and walked 0. Phelps didn't pitch bad. The offense could not back him up. Phelps elevated his pitch count early which led to his early departure.

Derek Jeter continued his hot hitting tonight with 4 hits in 5 at bats. He had his 500th career double tonight as well.

The Yankees are struggling offensively. Mark Teixeira and Robinson Cano cannot find their grooves and they are stranding runners on base.

The Yankees and Royals will play Game 2 of 4 tomorrow.
