Pettitte Solid in Series Finale Against Royals

The Yankees were able to take the series finale tonight after they were buoyed by a great start from Andy Pettitte. Their offense seems to be getting back to normal as they were able to put up 8 runs against the Royals tonight. The Yankees won by a final score of 8-3.

Andy Pettitte allowed 2 runs on 7 hits in 7 innings of work. He struck out 8 and walked 1 He made two mistakes tonight and those were 2 pitches that were hit for home runs.

Pettitte came out to start the 8th inning, but after walking the first batter he faced, Joe Girardi came out an went to the bullpen. He threw 98 pitches and 71 of them were for strikes. He had a comfortable lead and after throwing 115 pitches his last outing against the Reds, so there was no need for him to continue pitching.

Although Pettitte allowed 7 hits, 5 of them were either bloop hits or infield hits. The Royals weren't able to get good wood on the ball, but they were finding the holes to get on base. All in all, just a solid effort by Andy Pettitte.

The Yankees flashed the leather behind Pettitte tonight. Mark Teixeira dove to his right to start a run saving inning ending double play in the 3rd inning.

The Yankees offense exploded tonight when they put 8 runs on the board. Curtis Granderson got them going with a solo shot in the 1st inning. Alex Rodriguez would add to that with a 2 run shot in the 1st inning as well. A-Rod also added a home run in the 3rd inning. This was his 60th multi home run game of his career.

The Yanks' plated 3 in the 1st, 2 in the 3rd, and 3 in the 5th.

With a win tonight, the Yankees won the series with 2 wins. They have a scheduled off day for travel tomorrow and then they will start a 9 game road trip.

Derek Jeter Ties Paul Waner on All-Time Hit List

Derek Jeter has tied Paul Waner for 15th place on the All-Time hit list with 3,152 hits.

Derek currently leads the American League with 64 hits.

Jeter doubled in the 3rd inning, singled in the 5th inning and singled in the 8th inning.

Yanks' Pick Up Win; Offense Improves

The Yankees picked up a win Tuesday night as they defeated the Royals by a score of 3-2. Phil Hughes gave the Yankees a quality start and their offensive improved as they were able to put 3 runs on the board.

Phil Hughes allowed 2 runs on 5 hits in 6 innings pitched. He struck out 7 and walked 2. Hughes threw 106 pitches in which 74 of them were strikes.

The Yankees were trailing 2-0 going into the 4th inning, but Robinson Cano got them on the board with a solo shot into the Yankees Bullpen.

The Yankees would then plate 2 more runs in the bottom half of the 5th inning to take the 3-2 lead over the Royals.

Their offense improved tonight, but it's not quite where they wanted it to be. They were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and they left the bases loaded in the 5th inning. The Yankees also stranded 5 runners on  base.

Rafael Soriano came on to notch the save. Soriano is the new closer since Robertson and Rivera are on the disabled list.

The Yankees and Royals will conclude this 3 game set tomorrow night.
