Yanks' Shutout A's; Complete Sweep

The Yankees were able to receive a strong start from Hiroki Kuroda today that earned him his 4th win of the season and his team the sweep.

Kuroda completed an 8 inning shutout against the the A's today. He allowed just 4 hits He struck out 3 and issued only 1 walk. He threw 104 pitches and 67 were for strikes. His record on the season is now 4-6.

Rafael Soriano came on in the 9th to secure his 5th save of the season.

The Yankees offense was only able to plate 2 runs against the Athletics starter, Tommy Milone. The Yankees had the bases loaded in the 1st inning, but were unable to score. They were 1 for 11 with runners in scoring position today.

Andruw Jones was able to connect for his 5th home run on the season when he hit a solo shot to center field in the 2nd inning.

Mark Teixeira kept his hot hitting going today with 2 doubles. Teixeira drove in the Yankees 2nd run with a RBI double to left field in the 7th inning to plate Curtis Granderson. Mark was 2-4 on the day.

The Yankees will travel even more west tomorrow to start a 3 game set with the Angels.

Derek Jeter Passes George Brett on All-Time Hit List

Derek Jeter tied George Brett on Saturday with a bunt single and was able to pass him to in his first at bat on Sunday to secure 14th place on the all-time hit list.

Jeter hit a sinking line drive to the Athletics left fielder, Seth Smith, but was unable to make the catch.

Derek Jeter now has 3,155 career hits. Next on the list is Cal Ripken, Jr. with 3,184 career hits.

Mark Teixeira helped the Yankees pick up their fourth straight win on Saturday when the Yankees defeated the Athletics 9-2. Mark Teixeira hit 2 home runs and collected 5 RBI's in the win. Teixeira hit a solo shot in the 4th inning, a 2 run single in the 5th inning, and a 2 run shot in the 9th inning.

C.C. Sabathia got the call today in his home state and looked for his 6th win of the season. He lost 2 consecutive losses coming into today. Sabathia allowed 2 runs on 7 hits in 7 innings of work. He struck out 4 and walked 2.

Robinson Cano homered in his 2nd consecutive game. He hit a solo shot in the 3rd inning, which was his 7th of the season.

Derek Jeter continued his climb to the top of the hit list today when he tied George Brett on the all-time hit list for 14th place with 3,154 hits. Jeter drove in 2 runs today with a single in the 3rd and was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the 8th.

The Yankees were able to collect 14 hits and were 2 for 6 with runners in scoring position. They left 7 runners on base. The Yankees have had 26 hits in the first two games of this series.

Derek Jeter Ties George Brett on All-Time Hit List

Derek Jeter collected 2 hits Saturday to tie him with George Brett for 14th on the all-time hit list.

With one hit already, Jeter bunted back to the Athletics starter, Bartolo Colon, for a base hit. Derek previously hit an RBI single to center field in the third inning to break a tie with Paul Waner for 15th place.

Cal Ripken Jr. is next on the list for Jeter with 3,184 career hits.
