The Yankees have extended their win streak to eight games after the Yankees beat the Nationals 5-3 after a hard fought battle that lasted until the 14th inning.

Andy Pettitte started for the Yankees and was solid. Pettitte allowed 2 runs, on 5 hits, in 7 innings pitched. He struck out 6 and walked 3. He was removed after 95 pitches, in which 61 of them were for strikes.

Pettitte took Bryce Harper to school after he struck him out 3 times today with his slider/cutter or his curveball. Harper struck out 5 times in total.

Cory Wade came on in the 8th inning and allowed a game-tying home run to Ian Desmond. The score would stay 3-3 until the 14th inning.

The Yankee bullpen was excellent. The bullpen allowed 4 hits over 7 innings of work. They struck out 5 batters and only issued 1 walk.

The Yankees offense was able to take the lead in the 14th inning after a Mark Teixeira 2-run double to right field.

Rafael Soriano would come on in the 14th inning and notch his 12th save of the season.

The Yankees and Nationals will conclude their 3 game set tomorrow.

Nick Swisher Exits After Slide into Home Plate

Nick Swisher left Saturday's game against the Nationals in the 6th inning after he slid into home plate and it appeared as if Nick slid into the bat or was hit by Jesus Flores's knee.

Swisher was trying to score on a ball bounced back to the mound, but was tagged out by Flores after a perfect throw from Jordan Zimmermann.

He has been diagnosed with a left quadriceps contusion and is questionable for Sunday's game.

Nick was replaced by Andruw Jones in right field.
