9 Lives: Nova Extends Win Streak to 9

The Yankees extended their win streak to 9 games with their 4-1 win over the Nationals on Sunday. This was their third consecutive sweep.

Ivan Nova allowed 1 run, on 7 hits in 7 2/3 innings. He struck out 4 and walked 1. He threw 97 pitches before being removed in the eighth inning. He threw 64 pitches for strikes.

The Yankee offense supported Nova by putting runs up early. Mark Teixeira hit a sacrifice fly to center field in the first inning to give the Yankees the lead early on.

Robinson Cano and Curtis Granderson each hit solo home runs to extend the Yankees lead.

The Yankees finished their road trip with a 6-0 record and will face the Braves on Monday at home.

Hard Eight: Yanks' Extend Win Streak

The Yankees have extended their win streak to eight games after the Yankees beat the Nationals 5-3 after a hard fought battle that lasted until the 14th inning.

Andy Pettitte started for the Yankees and was solid. Pettitte allowed 2 runs, on 5 hits, in 7 innings pitched. He struck out 6 and walked 3. He was removed after 95 pitches, in which 61 of them were for strikes.

Pettitte took Bryce Harper to school after he struck him out 3 times today with his slider/cutter or his curveball. Harper struck out 5 times in total.

Cory Wade came on in the 8th inning and allowed a game-tying home run to Ian Desmond. The score would stay 3-3 until the 14th inning.

The Yankee bullpen was excellent. The bullpen allowed 4 hits over 7 innings of work. They struck out 5 batters and only issued 1 walk.

The Yankees offense was able to take the lead in the 14th inning after a Mark Teixeira 2-run double to right field.

Rafael Soriano would come on in the 14th inning and notch his 12th save of the season.

The Yankees and Nationals will conclude their 3 game set tomorrow.
