The Yankees were able to sweep the Indians by a score of 5-4, the same day after learning about their loss of C.C. Sabathia and Andy Pettitte.

Andy Pettitte started for the Yankees, but was forced to leave early after being drilled by a line drive that hit in left ankle. Pettitte has been diagnosed with a fractured fibula and will miss around 6 weeks.

Pettitte allowed 2 runs, 1 earned, on 3 hits in 4 innings of work. He struck out 7 and walked 1.

The Yankee bullpen stepped up today and helped the Yankees win secure the win.

Cody Eppley, Clay Rapada, Freddy Garcia, David Robertson, and Rafael Soriano all contributed to the win.

The Yankee offense was led by Robinson Cano and Eric Chavez.

Chavez hit a big 2 run double to left field in the fourth inning off of Ubaldo Jimenez that gave the Yankees a 2-1 lead.

The Yankees lost the lead in the fifth inning when they Indians scored two runs.

Robinson Cano was able to take the lead back with an opposite field home run that hit the State Farm sign in  left field. It was a 2 run shot and his 18th on the season.

The Yankees would score once more in the eighth on a Eric Chavez single to right field that scored Mark Teixeira. They led the Indians 5-3.

Rafael Soriano came on in the ninth and he was in danger of blowing the Yankees lead. Soriano allowed 1 run on 2 hits. He struck out 1 and walked 2. He was able to get Asrubal Cabrera to fly out to DeWayne Wise in left field to strand the bases loaded and end the game.

The Yankees have extended their win streak to five games.

The Yankees and White Sox will start a 4 game set tomorrow in the Bronx.

Andy Pettitte left his start early on Wednesday after a line drive struck his left ankle in the fifth inning. Pettitte stayed in the game, but was only able to throw one pitch. Girardi took him out after he saw that Pettitte was unable to land on his left foot.

Pettitte has been diagnosed with a fracutred fibula and is expected to miss at least 6 weeks.

"It's going to take some time," said Pettitte, who was with crutches are the game.

The Yankees General Manager, Brian Cashman, said that Pettitte might go on the 60-day disabled list and will likely return around August or September.

The Yankees would rather stay inside their organization with pitching help rather then going outside and trading for someone.

"I'd perfer not to go outside," Cashman said. "Obviously, we do go outside. We have done that before. This is part of the process."

Freddy Garcia pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings today in relief and he will start Monday.

Adam Warren has been called up and he will make his first major league start on Friday against the White Sox.

The Yankees also plan to call up reliever Ryota Igarashi to help in the bullpen.

Yankees HOPE Week: Andy Fass

The Yankees honored Andy Fass on Wednesday as part of HOPE Week. Andy is a five-year old boy who is suffering from oculocutaneous albinism, a disease that affects around 40,000 people around the world. Andy is legally blind and cannot be in the sun for long hours due to loss of pigment in his skin. Fass always wanted to play tee-ball, but is unable to due to his condition.

Yankee players Derek Jeter, C.C. Sabathia, Andy Pettitte, Phil Hughes, Russell Martin, Clay Rapada, and Chris Stewart will all surprise Andy Fass and play a game of tee-ball with him. Coaches Rob Thompson and Mick Kelleher will also be attending.

The Fass family will be greeted at approximately 11:00 pm at Yankee Stadium and they will be greeted by Yankee players and family members that will announce a postgame party at the MLB Fan Cave. The Yankees will surprise Andy with a special tee-ball lesson and other games with children who suffer from the same disease as Andy.

The New York Yankees HOPE Week will last until Friday, June 29th.
