Yankees: June 2012 Recap

The Yankees have concluded the month of June, which was their best month so far during the season.

The Yankees have posted a 20-7 record, their most wins in any month since August of 2009. They started the month of June 1.5 games back of Tampa Bay for first place in the AL East and .5 back of the Orioles for second black.. They now lead the Rays by 6 games and the Orioles by 4.5 games.

Many position players have picked up the pace during the month of June. Here they are:


  • Robinson Cano, 2B: 34 for 100, 11 home runs, 21 runs batted in, .340/.416 /730/1.146 (BA, OBP, SLG, OPS).
  • Nick Swisher, RF: 27 for 84, 4 home runs, 14 runs batted in, .321/.406/.548/.954  (BA, OBP, SLG, OPS).
  • Chris Stewart, C: 10 for 32, 0 home runs, 4 runs batted in, .313/.324/.375/.699  (BA, OBP, SLG, OPS).
  • Eric Chavez, 3B: 12 for 42, 2 home runs, 7 runs batted in, .286/.362/.524/.886  (BA, OBP, SLG, OPS).

The pitchers also have found success during this month. Here they are:


  • Ivan Nova, P: 5 games, 3 wins, 0 losses, 35.2 innings pitched, 27 hits, 5 earned runs, 9 walks, 27 strikeouts, 1.01 WHIP, 1.26 ERA.
  • Phil Hughes, P: 5 games, 4 wins, 1 loss, 33.2 innings pitched, 28 hits, 10 earned runs, 8 walks, 32 strikeouts, 1.07 WHIP, 2.67 ERA. 
  • C.C. Sabathia, P: 5 games, 3 wins, 1 loss, 35.2 innings pitched, 41 hits, 12 earned runs, 8 walks, 32 strikeouts, 1.37 WHIP, 3.03 ERA. 
  • Hiroki Kuroda, P: Will be posted soon. 
The Yankees will start the month of July with a game against the Chicago White Sox at Yankee Stadium on Old Timers' Day. 

Hiroki Kuroda's Gem Shuts Down White Sox

Hiroki Kuroda was able to help the Yankees defeat the White Sox 4-0 with his 11 strikeout gem on Saturday.

Kuroda allowed 0 runs on 3 hits in 7 innings of work. He struck out 11 and walked 1. Kuroda threw 107 pitches, in which 68 of them were for strikes. He was able to improve his record to 8-7 on the year.

Curtis Granderson got the Yankees on the board early with a solo home run to right field in the first inning, his 23rd on the season.

DeWayne Wise had a good ballgame today. He went 3-3 with a RBI double and a solo home run. Wise was a triple away from the cycle. Wise rocketed his second home run on the season into the second deck in right field.

Robinson Cano blasted his 19th home run in the sixth inning. He reached the second deck in right field as well.

David Robertson pitched a perfect eighth inning and Boone Logan pitched part of the ninth. Rafael Soriano relieved Boone Logan and closed the game in a non-save situation.

The Yankees and White Sox will play the finale tomorrow afternoon. The Yankees will celebrate Old Timers ' day before the game.

Adam Warren Sent Down; Mitchell Called Up

Adam Warren's trip to the Bronx was a short lived one. Warren made his major league debut on Thursday and he struggled. It was announced before the game that Adam Warren will be sent back down to the minors.

Warren allowed 6 runs on 8 hits in 2 1/3 innings.

David Phelps will likely take Warren's place in the rotation.

D.J. Mitchell has been seen in the clubhouse and he will be available in the bullpen.


Yanks' Blasted by White Sox; Warren Struggles

The Yankees were defeated by the Chicago White Sox 14-7 on Friday night. The White Sox were able to knock the rookie, Adam Warren, out of the game early. The Yankee offense tried to battle back, but they could not keep up with the White Sox's offense. 

Adam Warren lasted only 2 1/3 innings in which he allowed 6 runs on 8 hits. He struck out 2 and walked 2. Warren also allowed 2 home runs. He exited the game with 77 pitches, 47 of them were for strikes.

The Yankee offense scored four runs in the first, two in the fourth, and one in the seventh.

Derek Jeter led the game off with a double down the left field line. With that double, he has passed Cal Ripken Jr. on the All-Time hits list. 

David Phelps, Clay Rapada, and Cory Wade all were used from the bullpen.

DeWayne Wise was asked to come on in the ninth inning to record two outs, which he successful did without allowing a hit or run.

The Yankees and White Sox will play game 3 of 4 tomorrow in the Bronx.
