The Yankees were able to take game one of four against the Red Sox on Friday when they defeated their rival 10-8. Hiroki Kuroda and Josh Beckett, the two starters, both struggled early on. The Yankees would score five runs in the first inning, but the Red Sox would retaliate and put up a five spot of their own in the first.

Hiroki Kuroda allowed 7 runs, 6 earned, on 10 hits in 5 2/3 innings pitched. He struck out 3 and walked 1. Kuroda left the game after throwing 112 pitches, in which 70 of them were for strikes. The Yankees were able to get Kuroda a 5 run cushion before he even took the mound, but he gave it all back. Kuroda would settle down and pitch 4 2/3 of 1 run ball.

Mark Teixeira was the center of the offense tonight with his 4 runs batted in. Teixeira hit a big go ahead triple  to right center field in the seventh inning, which at the time gave them an 8-7 lead. They would go on to score twice more in the seventh.

The Red Sox would score once more on a solo shot over the green monster by Cody Ross in the bottom half of the seventh inning.

Rafael Soriano came on in the bottom of the eighth to secure a 4-out save. It was his 20th save on the season.

The Yankees and Red Sox will start a day-night double header on Saturday.
