Yanks' Sloppy Defense Leads to Loss

The Yankees were unable to sweep the day night double header against the Red Sox on Saturday, after they lost the nightcap 9-5. The Yankees committed four errors, which likely cost them the victory.

Phil Hughes started for the Yankees and he allowed 5 runs, 3 earned, on 10 hits in 5 1/3 innings pitched. He struck out 3 and walked 1. He threw 97 pitches, in which 71 of them for strikes. Hughes threw the ball well tonight, but the defense didn't back him up, and it costed him the early departure and the loss.

The Yankee offense scored early against Felix Doubront, the Red Sox starter. Mark Teixeira launched a three run shot to center field in the first inning to give them the 3-0 lead.

The Yankees would score twice more throughout the game on an Andruw Jones solo shot to left field and an Eric Chavez solo home run to right field.

The Yankees and Red Sox will conclude their four game set tomorrow.
