The Yankees were able to snap their four game losing streak on Monday when they defeated the Seattle Mariners 4-1.

The Yankees did their damage offensivley in the fourth inning in which they scored three runs. Mark Teixeira, Raul Ibanez, and Andruw Jones all colected an RBI in the inning.

Alex Rodriguez would add to their lead with a solo blast to left center field in the eighth inning. It was his 15th save on the year.

Rafael Soriano came on in the ninth and collected his 25th save on the season.

The Yankees and Mariners will play Game 2 of 3 tomorrow.

Derek Jeter Shares His Thoughts About Ichiro Suzuki

Derek Jeter talked before the Yankees and Mariners game on Monday about Ichiro Suzuki, who they acquired prior to the game.

Here is what he had to say:

I’ve enjoyed playing against him for 11-12 years; he’s someone I’ve always admired from afar. I’ve had the opportunity to play with a lot of great players throughout the years. ... He’s done some great things in 11 ½ years he’s been in the league. Offensively, defensively, on the bases; there are a lot of different ways he can beat you. He’s been as consistent as any player for a long time. Ten years in a row of 200 hits, that’s not easy to do.

All positive things coming from the captain.

The Yankees will play the Mariners from July 23rd to July 25th.

Official: Yankees Acquire Ichiro Suzuki from the Mariners

The Yankees have made it official. Ichiro Suzuki is officially a New York Yankee.

The Yankees and Mariners have agreed on a deal which sent D.J. Mitchell and Danny Farquahr to Seattle in exchange for Ichiro Suzuki and cash.

Ichiro Suzuki is batting .261 on the season with 4 home runs and 28 runs batted in.

Reports have surfaced that Ichiro requested to be traded a few weeks ago. He thought that he should be able to play for a contending team.

Ichiro is batting 8th and playing right field on Monday against the Mariners.

Yankees Designate DeWayne Wise for Assignment

With the addition of Ichiro on Monday, the Yankees had to make a roster move in order to put Ichiro on the active roster. The Yankees have decided to designate DeWayne Wise for assignment.

Wise was hitting .262 for the Yankees and hit 3 home runs while driving in 8 runs. He was mostly used as a pinch-runner during the later innings, but occasionally started in the outfield.
