The Yankees were unable to defeat the Boston Red Sox on Saturday as they lost the high intensity game 8-6. The game was delayed over two hours due to inclement weather.

C.C. Sabathia struggled during this game as he allowed 6 runs on 8 hits in 6 innings of work. He struck out 6 and walked 2. Sabathia allowed three runs in the very first inning. He exited with 104 pitches thrown, in which 69 of them were for strikes.

The Yankees were trailing the whole game as the Red Sox scored three in the third and three in the fifth. Mark Teixeira was facing his good friend Vincente Padilla (Joking) in the bottom of the eighth inning with one on and two outs. The score was 6-4. Mark Teixeira was ahead in the count 2-0 when Padilla threw a 51 MPH curveball in for a strike. The next pitch Teixeira drilled a 2-1 fastball into the right field stands to tie the game at 6.

The Red Sox would answer back in the ninth after Curtis Granderson misplayed a ball, which probably cost them the game.

The Yankees lost a touch one tonight, but these two teams will play the finale tomorrow night.

The Yankees came out swinging tonight as they slammed the Red Sox 10-3 in front of a crowd of 49,571. Curtis Granderson hit his second grand slam of the season in the eighth inning to blow the game wide open.

Phil Hughes started for the Yankees and he was solid after some early struggles. Hughes allowed 3 runs on 5 hits in 7 innings of work. He struck out 5 and walked 1. All of the runs that he gave up were solo home runs. Hughes exited the game after throwing 110 pitches, in which 77 of them were for strikes.

Hughes gave up a solo shot to Dustin Pedroia in the first inning, a solo shot to Carl Crawford in the third inning, and a solo shot to Jarrod Saltalamacchia in the fourth inning.

Raul Ibanez gave the Yankees the lead early with his two-run shot to right field in the first inning. Previously, Mark Teixeia beat out a routine double play ball which scored Derek Jeter and tied the game at one. The Yankees finished the first inning with a 3-1 lead.

Curtis Granderson smacked his second grand slam of the season which blew the game wide open. After the home run, the Yankees led the Red Sox 10-3 and that would be enough to win the game.

The Yankees and Red Sox will play game two of three tomorrow afternoon.

Nick Swisher Injury Update

It's been a while since we posted anything about Swisher's hip flexor strain so lets jump right into it.

  • Swisher ran in the outfield and took batting practice swings on July 25th.
  • He ran bases on July 26th.
  • Brian Cashman said that Swisher would not return until Saturday against the Red Sox.
  • Swisher said he feels good, but understands the Yankees being cautious with him.
  • He also said that he is ready to go on Saturday.
Ichiro Suzuki will play right field for the Yankees until Swisher returns.
