The Yankees were unable to answer Justin Verlander as he struck out 14 batters in their 7-2 loss against the Tigers on Monday.

Ivan Nova started for the Yankees and he struggled with command once again. Nova allowed 7 runs on 11 hits in 5 1/3 innings of work. He struck out 5 and did not allowed a walk. His command faltered which allowed the Tigers to virtually hit everything that he threw.

The Yankee offense was unable to accumulate much against Justin Verlander, who dominated the Yankee lineup tonight. Derek Jeter and Robinson Cano accounted for the only two players that drove in runs. Derek Jeter singled in Eric Chavez in the fifth inning and Robinson Cano singled home Curtis Granderson in the fifth inning as well.

The Yankees will just have to tip their cap to one of the game's best pitchers and come back tomorrow ready to play.
