The Yankees were able to defeat the Red Sox 6-4 on Friday after the Yankees launched five home runs in the game.

Phil Hughes started for the Yankees and he was solid. Hughes allowed 4 runs, 0 earned, on 4 hits in 7 innings of work. He struck out 4 and walked 1. Hughes threw away a potential double play ball in the third inning which led to four runs in the inning. He finished his outing with 106 pitches thrown, in which 72 of them were for strikes. Phil Hughes used his change-up more than he has in his previous outings. With his effective change up, it made his fastball look more faster than it really is.

The Yankee offense used the home run ball tonight. Nick Swisher launched two homers tonight, one from each side of the plate, which led the Yankees to victory. Curtis Granderson, Russell Martin, and Derek Jeter all added solo shots in the win.

Jayson Nix contributed tonight with a go-ahead RBI single in the sixth inning.

Rafael Soriano came on in the ninth and notched his 30th save on the season.

The Yankees and Red Sox will continue their three game set tomorrow afternoon.

Derek Jeter Collects 250th Home Run

Derek Jeter home run off of Franklin Morales on Friday gave the captain his 250th home run of his career.

Jeter, who is not known as a home run hitter, lined a 3-2 slider into the left field stands to tie the game at four in the fifth inning.

Also with that home run, Derek Jeter has tied Greg Nettles on the Yankees All-Time Home Run list.
