Hughes Dominates Sox; Win Series

The Yankees were able to defeat the Red Sox 2-0 on Thursday as they were given an outstanding start by Phil Hughes.

Hughes allowed 0 runs on 5 hits in 7 1/3 innings of work. He struck out 7 and walked only 1 batter. Hughes exited with 95 pitches thrown, in which 68 of them were for strikes.

Derek Jeter reached another milestone tonight as he tied Willie Mays for 10th on the all-time hits list with 3,283 career hits. Jeter also drove in one run with his single in the seventh inning.

Andruw Jones drove in the other Yankee run with a bases-loaded sacrifice fly in the fourth inning.

Rafael Soriano came on in the ninth inning and secured his 38th save of the season.

The Yankees will travel back home and begin a three game set with the Rays.
