Yankees ink Hafner to one-year deal

The Yankees have finalized a one-year deal with Travis Hafner on Friday, who will likely spend the majority of his time in the designated hitter slot.

Hafner played in only 66 games for the Indians in 2012, in which he batted .228 with 12 home runs and 34 RBI's.

Although he presents a lot of power from the left side of the plate, Hafner has been sidelined with injuries through the last five seasons. The last time that he has played in over 100 games was in 2010 when he played in 118 games.

The Yankees have designated Russ Canzler for assignment to make room for Hafner,

The Yankees are still win less in the American League Championship Series as the Tigers defeated them 2-1 on Tuesday to take a commanding 3-0 lead in the series.

Phil Hughes started for the Yankees and he departed early due to lower back stiffness. Hughes allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 3 innings of work. He struck out 1 and walked 3. Hughes finished his outing with 61 pitches thrown, in which 36 of them were for strikes.

The Yankee bullpen was outstanding once again as the allowed 1 run on 4 hits in 5 innings of work.

The Yankee offense continued to struggle as their only run came from an Eduardo Nunez solo shot in the ninth inning.

The Yankees will look to avoid the four game sweep tomorrow as they look to get back on track.
