Yanks' offense, pitching leads to a win against Indians

The Yankees went to work against the Indians on Tuesday night as they took the second game of their four game set by a final score of 14-1 . The Yankee offense had an outstanding night as they collected 18 hits and 14 runs. Andy Pettitte was able to hold the improved Indians lineup at bay as he surrendered only one run.

Andy Pettitte allowed one run on five hits in seven innings of work. He struck out four, but walked three batters. Pettitte finished his outing with 97 pitches thrown, in which 63 of them were for strikes. With his victory tonight, he improves his record to 2-0 on the year.

The Yankee offense found it's stroke tonight as they belted five home runs and put up fourteen runs on the board. Ichiro Suzuki, Robinson Cano, Kevin Youkilis, Lyle Overbay, and Brennan Boesch all hit home runs tonight in the win.

Robinson Cano continued his hot hitting tonight as he went 4-for-6 with two doubles and a home run. He scored two runs and drove in five.

Brett Gardner had a good game after getting off to a rough start. Gardner collected four hits in five at-bats. He scored three runs and drove in two runs. He also worked a walk.

Tempers almost flared in the fourth inning when Kevin Youkilis was plunked by Carlos Carrasco after a Robinson Cano hit a home run. Carrasco was ejected by home plate umpire, Jordan Baker. Baker seemed to get caught in the middle of his decision as he ejected Carrasco after throwing him a new ball. Terry Francona, the Indians manager, came out to argue the ejection, but later returned to the dugout without getting himself ejected.

The Yankee third basemen, Kevin Youkilis, would get redemption in his next at bat as he drilled a two-run shot to left field.

Adam Warren would relieve Pettitte to work the eighth and ninth inning. He allowed no runs on two hits. He also struck out one and did not issue a walk.

The Yankees will look to add on to their three game winning streak tomorrow when they play game number three of four against the Cleveland Indians.

Yankees re-sign Clay Rapada to minor league deal

Almost one week after he was released, the Yankees have announced that they have re-signed left-hander Clay Rapada to a minor league deal. Rapada was designated for assignment on March 31st in order to make room for Lyle Overbay on the 40-man roster.

Rapada posted a 2.82 ERA, 8.9 K/9, and 4.0 BB/9 in 38 1/3 innings last year for the Yankees. He appeared in 70 games last year out of the bullpen.

Clay Rapada battled through shoulder bursitis during spring training, so it will take him some more time to get back on track. Rapada will likely be assigned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, as he cannot return to the major leagues until May 3rd, due to league rules that states a player cannot return until after 30 days after his release.

Yankee bats come alive in opener against Indians

The Yankee bats came to life today as the Yankees took the opener against the Indians by a score of 11-6. Robinson Cano and Travis Hafner led the charge as they both had a multi-hit game.

Hiroki Kuroda started for the Yankees and besides his shaky first, he pitched well. Kuroda allowed three runs on five hits in five and a third innings of work. He struck out six, but walked four. He struggled with command early on, but he settled in during the later innings. Kuroda finished the game with 111 pitches thrown, in which 64 of them were for strikes. With his outing today, Kuroda picked up his first win of this young season.

The Yankee bullpen had a strong showing today, with the exception of Shawn Kelley, who had a shaky outing. Boone Logan and Joba Chamberlain both pitch scoreless outings, although they combined for three walks.

Robinson Cano snapped out of his skid as he went 3-for-4 with two home runs and a double. He drove in two runs and walked once. Travis Hafner also had a big day as he went 2-for-3 with a home run and a single. He drove in four runs and walked twice. Vernon Wells quietly had a good day as well as he went 3-for-4 with a walk.

The Yankees will look to duplicate their performance tomorrow when they resume their series with the Indians.
