Sabathia to start opener against Orioles

After their second consecutive rain out, it was announced that C.C. Sabathia will start the opening game against the Orioles on Friday.

Phil Hughes, who would have started on Thursday, will be skipped. Hughes did not warm up on Thursday and he will be available out of the bullpen throughout the weekend.

The Yankees will go with C.C. Sabathia, Hiroki Kuroda, and Andy Pettitte for their three game set against the Orioles.

Game 10: Yankees at Indians postponed

For a second straight day rain has postponed a game between the Yankees and Indians. Thursday's game was supposed to begin a 7:05 pm ET, but was delayed and was not officially postponed until approximately 9:00 pm ET.

Joe Girardi expects this game, as well as yesterdays game, to be played on May 13th as a day-night doubleheader. The Yankees and Indians have a mutual off-day on that day.

The Yankees won the first two games of this four game set before rain halted the last two games of the series.

Ivan Nova to be skipped; Hughes to start Thursday

The Yankees have announced that Ivan Nova's turn in the rotation will be skipped due to the rain out on Thursday. Phil Hughes, who would have started the final game of their four game set, will still be making that start.

Ivan Nova will be available out of the bullpen as he will be given an extra five days until his next start.

One of the main reasons why they are skipping Nova is because they don't want to get the rotation out of their rhythm. They want Sabathia and Pettitte to pitch on five days rest and not seven.

As for Nova, he understood that he would be skipped, but he was a little disappointed.

"I really dislike that having to wait 10 days to pitch again, but i will keep my arm in good condition with some extra throws in the bullpen," Nova said. "It kind of sucks skipping this start because the team is on a roll here in Cleveland, and i really wanted to come out there and show what i can do."

Ivan Nova is 0-1 on the year with a 7.71 ERA.
