The Yankees were unable to sweep the Diamondbacks as they forced extra innings, but came up short in the twelfth. Francisco Cervelli hit a game-tying solo shot in the ninth inning to tie the game up at two. Unfortunately  the Yankee pitching would allow four runs in the twelfth inning, which led to a loss.

Phil Hughes started for the Yankees and he had a solid outing. Hughes allowed two runs on six hits in seven innings of work. He struck out six and did not issue a free pass. He finished his outing with 109 pitches thrown, in which 75 of them were for strikes.

The Yankee offense struggled early on as they struck out seven times against opposing starter, Joseph Corbin. Robinson Cano would get the Yankees on the board in the sixth inning with a solo shot to right-center field.

Trailing 2-1 in the ninth, Francisco Cervelli hit a solo shot to left field to tie the game up at two.

David Phelps took the loss as he allowed four runs, three earned, on four hits in two innings of work. The rest of the bullpen was sharp again, which consisted off Boone Logan, Joba Chamberlain, and David Robertson. Combined, they allowed three hits and no runs.

The Yankees will travel to Toronto and begin a three game set tomorrow night.

Yankees lose Jeter until after All-Star break

The Yankees received bad news on Thursday as they leaned that their All-Star shortstop, Derek Jeter, will likely be out until after the All-Star break.

Jeter, who has been dealing with soreness in his surgically repaired right ankle, visited Dr. Robert Anderson in Charlotte, N.C., on Thursday. After undergoing a CT scan, it showed that Jeter had a small crack in the same spot where he underwent surgery.

Jeter will not have to undergo another surgery and the healing time for this injury is four to eight weeks.
